Plastic design icons
Design icons, plastic objects that appear in almost every design history are the subject of this exhibition catalogue. However, the book takes a slightly different look at these iconic objects of product design. Starting from more or less well-known classics, they are compared with predecessors, successors or even visionary designs - always taking into account the role that plastics play in this.
The collection of the Kunststoff-Museum Düsseldorf includes around 15,000 plastic objects. After various thematic presentations, e.g. in touring exhibitions such as "Eating on the go", "The plastic makers", "We pack it" or "Unter Strom" the focus is now on the design, the design with the help of the "all-rounder plastic".
Wolfgang Schepers is an art and design historian, president of the Plastics Museum Association and co-founder of the Society for Design History. Dietrich Braun is em. Friederike Waentig is a professor for restoration and conservation sciences at the TH Köln and a member of the executive committee of the Kunststoff-Museums-Verein.
