A short but successful history characterizes design in the western world. Even outside of this hemisphere, it is not only gaining in importance as a profession: the supposed vocabulary of success is copied and varied, but many of the motifs used and sold as "new" are derived from a historical vocabulary of forms, are independent characteristics of a country and culture and represent represents the reinterpretation of traditional design principles.
