Charlemagne fascinating ruler and riddle at the same time.

Actually we know little about the most powerful medieval ruler and yet we are fascinated by him. This is exactly where this book comes in. It resists the temptation to bend the incomplete, contradictory and distorted historical sources into a coherent story.

Saskia Petermann (text and graphics) and Fabienne Loodts (illustration) arrange the fragments into a collage of short texts, graphic novel passages, quotations and infographics. In the field of tension between these facets, Charlemagne comes to life again, perhaps a little dazzling, but certainly no more dazzling than the Carolingian emperor really was and definitely more exciting than a traditional history lesson.
